About Us!

Wayne County Bank was organized in 1914. Mr. James L. Morrow served as the first cashier and held that position for 48 years. The original bank was capitalized at $15,000.

Wayne County Bank weathered the Great Depression of the 1930’s and emerged in good shape. The bank, since its organization, has occupied three different buildings. It was first located on the southwest corner of the square in a two story concrete block building. In 1971, the bank purchased property just off the square on Hwy. 64 West and constructed a new building. This building was renovated in 1986. In 2007, a new main office was built directly behind the existing one. This would provide much needed space and accommodate the bank well into the future.

After Mr. Morrow's death in 1963, Martin L. Haggard, Sr. was hired to serve as CEO of the bank. He served in this position until his death in November, 1994. In 1963, the assets of the bank were $1,005,000. At the time of his death, the assets of the bank were approximately $70 million.

In 1975, a branch office was built in Collinwood, Tennessee. This move made a tremendous impact by reaching the population of the South end of Wayne County. Larry Haggard was hired at the time of this enlargement to manage the Collinwood Office. In August, 1991, Wayne County Bank purchased the assets of the former First Federal Savings & Loan, naming it the Court Square Branch. Again this was a good move for the bank, bringing in many good deposits and home loans. In October, 1998, Wayne County Bank opened two new branches in Wayne County. A full service office opened in Clifton and a drive-thru facility opened on Hwy 64 West in Waynesboro.

Present assets are now in excess of $138 million. The bank's primary mission has been to serve the banking needs of Wayne County. The bank has built a reputation of honesty and conservative soundness which has served it well. Wayne County Bank has sought to serve all of the people of Wayne County and pride ourselves on being " Banking at its Best."
